The future of DCTV is currently unknown as it relates to the CW. And over the course of the last year, we found out about a lot of cancellations in regards to everything DCTV.
So I don’t think that this is really surprising. But now an official update from the man running the CW has pretty much everybody worried because it looks like it’s all doom and gloom going forward.
So if we just look at recent history. Arrow was of course the first one to end. But then after that quickly we found out that multiple other shows were ending.
Whether it was Supergirl. Batwoman. Legends of Tomorrow. Who knows what’s happening with Gotham Knights? The Flash has officially ended. And currently, the status of CW Superman and the Lowest is unknown.
But things get a little bit worse as we move forward. Of course, we recently found out that Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and Titans all look to be on the chopping block or have already been cut and confirmed to be stopping, aka Star Girl.
So things are looking now pretty bad for everything CW as it relates to DC. In a brand new interview with The Hollywood Reporter gets to sit down and talk to one of the people involved in running the CW.
Specifically the new boss. And he says he doesn’t know yet and he doesn’t know if there’s going to be a future for the CW. For various series from DC and what they could possibly be doing going forward.
And he mentioned that one of the deciding factors here is that the CW does not make revenue anymore. It’s literally losing money.
So that’s why the moves and assets that have been made over the last couple of years were so very prominent and very public because everybody knew once we saw the numbers as to why at and T was dumping WB, that the CW has been in the toilet for the better part of the last decade
. And again, we are talking about a station that went from having tons of DC content that generated a billion dollars a year in revenue to literally hemorrhaging money out of every single corner of everything they do.
And again, this is a major problem. So investing a ton of money into new DC content that’s not going to pull in any money or revenue seems pointless.
And at the same time, if you look at what’s happening with the change at DC studios, specifically that James Gunn is now going to be running everything, film, and TV, it makes sense. I don’t think James Gunn and Peter Saffron
are going to look at The CW and go, what if we give them Booster Gold or Martian Manhunter where they’re going to go lose money and be stuck over there in obscurity being watched by one, 2 million people? Maybe it’s unfortunate,
but I think the writing is on the wall and they’re just letting people know. Once the current prop of shows is out. Say goodbye to the arrowverse.
