Avatar 2 gets record breaking runtime as The longest 2022
This December when you sit down to watch Avatar, I really hope that you can hold it in because you’re in for a long haul with the sequel,
the original clocked in at 2 hours and 42 minutes, and the new one will run even longer. So people that thought that Batman in an endgame was long, get ready for this one, 3 hours and 10 minutes.
So at 3 hours and 10 minutes, this is honestly very unexpected, to say the least. I mean, there’s been some long films this year. Let’s be real. If we look at it in terms of minutes, this film is 190 minutes long.
The Batman was 176, and Wakanda Forever is 161. And even other films that felt longer like everything, everywhere, all at once were just under 140. And even if you look at the OG Avatar, 162 minutes, 190 is quite a step up.
And this honestly is I mean, it’s not unexpected. It’s James Cameron. He spent an insane amount of money on this and he has the final say over everything. And certainly, this is supposed to be like, we’re going back to Pandora.
We’re in for a long haul. So it’s going to be interesting to see how exactly the everyday audience responds to this. Personally, I don’t think they’re going to complain. Say what you will about Avatar,
certainly everybody does. Certainly, I have my complaints about it, but this thing is it’s a lengthy film and it might attract a couple of people,
but I think once people start seeing the marketing buzz and hype around it after Wakanda Forever after it was the first two and a half, three weeks, this thing is going to be everywhere.
And I think the runtime is honestly going to be favorable to people. I remember people when they look at the first one saying, I’ll go because at least it’s a long film and it’s getting good word of mouth and buzz, I’ll get my money out of it.
I think that could happen here as well. Certainly visually, I don’t think you’re going to see anything like this for quite a long time. The original is one of the most visually stunning films in the last 20 years,
whether people like it or not. It is. And you can see it’s influencing multiple places, including things like Aquaman, for example. So I think this thing being over 3 hours isn’t going to really stop anybody.
